About

Sarajevo’s food, tea, and coffee scenes are rooted in its multi-layered history and culture. Rather than explore them alone, let a guide immersed in the city’s culinary tastes and rituals lead the way. Explore the City Market to sample specialities including smoked meats and cheeses; visit the outdoor market to taste local coffee and learn its drinking etiquette; and sip top-notch tea with a sommelier at a tea house.

Foodie Guide

Your tour itinerary

You'll start at Balkantina
We will meet in front of the Balkantina. There, you will meet your foodie tour guide who will give an introduction to Sarajevo’s culture and cuisine.
Markale market place
We will take a stroll through the open green market. Colored by fresh fruits and vegetables, you will learn more about growing these, tips for making traditional dishes with them, and find out how, in one country, people grow different crops within just a few kilometers of each other, including walnuts, apples, plums, grapes, olives, and pomegranates.
Oklagija
Be sure to come with an empty stomach, as we will have breakfast at a local pie shop (buregdžinica). Here, we will eat pie for breakfast, just like real locals do. You will have a chance to see and experience how Bosnians start their day and learn how to make one of our most popular traditional dishes.
Bascarsija and a traditional coffee place
After breakfast, we’ll stroll down to the old town, where the smell of freshly ground coffee will guide us to a shop where coffee is produced. Here, you can immerse yourself in our world of coffee and learn the proper way to drink and enjoy it in one of the many coffee places.
Franz & Sophie, Specialty tea shop
To take a break, we will visit a special tea place that is the only shop in the country to sell hundreds of different high-quality teas from all parts of the world. Here, you will meet the only tea sommelier in Bosnia and Herzegovina and try some of the most unique tea flavors. Only for you, the tea sommelier will conduct a presentation on some of the most intriguing teas from around the world.
Balkantina
To wrap up the tour and celebrate its success, we will finish at the local gourmet shop, where you will taste authentic local rakia. Drinking rakia in the morning is a common practice for locals to prepare themselves for the rest of the day!
